On Tuesday, President Biden issued a statement hoping Congress would support a bill that would ultimately give 11 million immigrants legal citizenship and residency. And he didn’t stop there as he proclaimed June 2021 to be National Immigrant Heritage Month. It’s unclear if Biden knows that June is already “Pride Month”. Still, the idle President said, “we reaffirm and draw strength from that enduring identity and celebrate the history and achievements of immigrant communities across our Nation.”
Although Biden hasn’t any facts or data to back up his claims, he somehow suggested that immigrants and communities of “color” have been hit worse from COVID-19 than the rest of the country. “After an especially difficult period marked by both the COVID-19 pandemic and the all-too-frequent demonization of immigrants, it is vital that our Nation reflect on the leadership, resilience, and courage shown by generations of immigrant communities, and recommit ourselves to our values as a welcoming Nation. It was these same immigrant families and communities of color who were disproportionately struck by the virus. In honor of those we’ve lost, let us dedicate ourselves as a Nation to protecting one another and doing our part to put an end to this pandemic for good.”
And hoping no one forgets, Biden was sure to show how “woke” he is by showcasing the diversity of his Administration. He said, “Today, nearly one-third of my Administration’s 1,500 political appointees are naturalized U.S. citizens or children of immigrants.”
So, while Trump left the border strong and secure, Biden’s answer to border protection is to simply give them all citizenship. While absurd, this marks the first idea either Biden or Harris has had when addressing the border.
