Biden's immigration strategy, beyond just letting in anyone who comes, is trying to address the "root causes" of migration.
This was always the lefty argument against President Trump's borders enforcement. There's no point in building a wall if you don't deal with the root causes driving migration. Never mind that there's no way you're going to fix enough of the world that a billion people won't want to move to America. Fixing root causes is how the Left thinks and that's the only kind of immigration control it will support.
But people in other countries don't necessarily want Kamala Harris parachuting in to "fix" them.
Especially when the fixes invariably mean leftist social programs, funding leftist NGOs, and backing leftist governments.
When Biden appointed Kamala Harris to manage the migrant crisis, it was clarified that she wouldn't be doing border security, but working on root causes stuff.
That meant heading off to Guatemala with a broken plane and no clue.
A lot of Guatemalans don't want a representative of the US government trying to fix them. And the more conservative ones rallied in protest against her visit.
But after boarding a new plane and taking the 4 1/2 hour flight to Guatemala, protestors were at the Guatemalan Air Force base waiting for the vice president with open arms and signs. Big signs.
One sign simply stated, “Kamala, TRUMP WON,” another told the vice president that “Guatemala as pro-life,” and another want to her to “go home.”
Funding abortion is usually a part of "fixing root causes".
Trump, like Obama, is one of those rare presidents whom people around the world felt invested in. For Obama, it was leftists, and for Trump, it's conservatives, because they represent a larger worldview.
Biden's root cause routine has not only done nothing to lower illegal migration, but is making enemies around the world.
Guatemalans.org has a statement addressing some of these grievances.
Guatemala is a nation of conservative values.
We work hard to improve our lives, to freely produce, trade, and cooperate with neighboring countries.
The violation of our sovereignty by the Biden Administration is a violation of our individual liberties, we deserve to live free from coercion of foreign nations.
We are demanding an immediate cease & desist of all US interventionist policies in Guatemala, including all USAID and all aid provided to NGOs aligned with this radical agenda.
