According to Santa Clara University (SCU), the Jesuit priest who officiated at President Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony is under investigation for undisclosed accusations and has been put on leave from his chair as president of the university. The priest is known to have had a close relationship with Biden’s family for over 15 years.

Santa Clara University released a statement saying that it has received notices that the misconduct behavior of Father Kevin O’Brien largely relates to conversations in adult settings that are “inconsistent with established Jesuit protocols and boundaries.”

The statement, written by John Sobrato, chairman of the university’s board of trustees, did not go into detail about the characteristics of those conversations or the charges levied against him. But at least according to the charges, those who decided to report their accounts are being supported. “It is important that anyone who witnesses actions they believe are inconsistent with SCU’s values or rules is able to share their concerns and have confidence that they will be taken seriously,” the statement read.

During Biden’s inauguration at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, O’Brien presided over Mass for Biden, Kamala Harris, their families, and congressional representatives.

A glimpse at the priest’s Twitter account.

O’Brien is Canadian born and became a U.S. citizen at the age of 22, earned a degree in government from Georgetown University in 1988 and a law degree from the University of Florida. He later settled as a teacher at Cardinal Newman Catholic high school in West Palm Beach, Florida, and entered the Jesuit order in 1996, and ordained a decade later.

Rev. Jerry Pokorsky, who condemned Biden’s administration as the most historic anti-Catholic government, also had some words for members of the Church who allow themselves to be politically manipulated, on CatholicCulture.org “Catholic clergymen are in disarray.”
