Sad Trombone: CNN’s Keilar Suffers Disastrous Ratings Debut on ‘New Day’

On Monday, CNN’s Brianna Keilar began her new gig as New Day co-host after just over two years helming CNN Right Now and the weekday afternoon edition of CNN Newsroom, where she had come to establish herself as a condescending, far-left, Fox-hating, smug pundit with commentaries masquerading as journalism.

Unfortunately for Keilar, the ratings were in and the show was down 30 percent in total viewership from last year and 33 percent in the 25-54 demographic. This should come as no surprise, but that would mean that the show had continued to reign as the least-watched show on CNN, Fox News, or MSNBC.

Nielsen Media Research ratings revealed that Monday’s debut featured a paltry average total of 495,000 viewers and a minuscule average of 122,00 viewers in the 25-54 demographic.

The indefatigable RoadMN dug into the numbers from ShowBuzzDaily.com and found that the 8:00 a.m. Eastern hour was the only one to crack half a million viewers (with 627,000 viewers).

On her debut show, our Kristine Marsh wrote about how Keilar had brought along her insufferably partisan and snarky “Roll the Tape” segment and it was a doozy as she took issue with the chyrons of....Fox News.

So according to Brianna, Fox News’s chyrons were disrespectful and juvenile toward the Biden administration. But if that’s the case, then what were CNN’s chyrons during the Trump presidency?

We don’t mean to belabor the point, but Tuesday wasn’t any better in the ratings as Nielsen only showed a marginal gain for New Day to a 547,000 average total viewership and 132,000 in the demo.

Though it’s nothing to celebrate, the show was able to ride the wave of the Derek Chauvin trial having been placed in the hands of the jury to where the 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Eastern hours were north of 500,000 total viewers. But when it came to waves for CNN, one has to equate this to a ripple.

On said show, Marsh was back at it and chronicled Keilar’s segment with ACLU lawyer that decried Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis for signing into a law an anti-rioting bill in response to the rampant rioting last summer. If the new Sunshine State law is “dangerous,” then what would Keilar and this ACLU rep call it when rioters destroyed people’s livelihoods?

So while a degree from what our friend Steve Krakauer once dubbed “the Jim Acosta School of Journalism” works for boss and ringmaster Jeff Zucker and Resistance types, it hadn’t exactly translated into viewers.
