CBS is blaming former President Donald Trump’s “anti-Asian” rhetoric for the brutal attack on an elderly Asian man in Oakland, California, which left the victim brain-dead.
The assault happened just before 7 a.m. Tuesday while the 75-year-old a widower was taking his morning walk in Oakland’s Adams Point neighborhood. Witnesses described seeing an older model brown truck with two people inside pull up near the senior, who was walking with a cane. The suspect was seen shoving the elderly man’s cane away, violently knocking him to the ground. The perp then stole his wallet and phone, before fleeing.
Those who know the victim told ABC7 that it doesn’t look like he’s going to make it.
Teaunte Bailey, 26, was arrested Tuesday evening in Oakland, and is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of robbery and other charges.
Bailey appeared to be a career criminal. He was on parole and has an extensive criminal history, ABC7 reported.
But according to CBS, this crime, and all other attacks on Asian-Americans in the past year are connected to former President Trump’s rhetoric.
“Such attacks have been on the rise nationwide due to anti-Asian sentiment spurred by politicians such as former President Trump who’ve blamed China for the COVID-19 pandemic,” CBS opined in its news article.
There is no question that Covid-19 began in China, and the Chinese communists initially tried to cover up the seriousness of the disease.
Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf released a statement Tuesday evening calling the attack “reprehensible,” adding that police would “investigate thoroughly to determine whether this was racially motivated or a vile crime of opportunity.”
Crimes against Asian-Americans have been on the increase nationwide, but crimes overall have increased amid the pandemic. Witnesses in the Adams Point neighborhood told ABC7 that there had been a recent carjacking in the area, and two drive by shootings that left 3 people dead.
The truth is, these heinous attacks on Asian people—usually elderly—are nothing new.
Department of Justice crime statistics indicated in May of 2020 that black on Asian crime is 280 times more common than Asian-on-black crime.
Black on Asian violence has been a scourge for many years throughout the nation—especially in Oakland and San Francisco. In 2008 the San Francisco Police Department analyzed about 300 strong-arm robberies and found that 85 percent of the physical assault crimes committed by black perpetrators against Asian victims.
This latest atrocity is just the latest of many such crimes against members of the Asian American community in the Bay Area.
But the media seems eager to have the assaults listed as hate crimes, and pin the blame on Trump, or “white supremacists.”
“What people have to do is not jump to conclusions,” said KTVU legal analyst Michael Cardoza.
In order to establish that it was a hate crime, “prosecutors have to prove the suspect was motivated by anger over the victim’s race, religion, gender or disability,” Cardoza said.
Otherwise, it was just another crime of opportunity committed by a ruthless thug.
