By Duncan Smith at The National Sentinel-
The House of Representatives may be controlled by one party, but it was nevertheless established by our founders as part of a bicameral legislative body where the voices of the American people can be heard, measured, and considered.
Yet ‘the people’ haven’t been heard very much of late, because fascist House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been keeping the chamber closed while claiming it’s just ‘too dangerous’ for lawmakers to be there in person because of the coronavirus.
That’s nonsense, of course, because the Senate, whose members are, on average, older than their House members and thus more prone to contract the illness, based on what we know, has been in session for weeks, thanks to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
In reality, Pelosi has been exploiting the pandemic to exert iron-fisted control over her chamber, keeping members out of session while she and her cronies craft legislation behind the scenes and then call everyone back so they can simply cast a vote.
No amendments. No debate. No representation for the people.
Well, the Republicans have had enough. The GOP has filed a lawsuit against Pelosi which seeks to dispose of her ‘proxy voting’ totalitarianism as an unconstitutional exertion of power.
The Hill reports:
House Republicans are preparing to file a lawsuit against Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in an attempt to thwart the use of proxy voting, GOP staffers familiar with the legal action confirmed on Tuesday. …
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is expected to spearhead the legal action with the support of 20 members of his conference including Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and GOP Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), along with four constituents from different regions. The suit is expected to be filed in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.
“Our read is that this is unconstitutional and we think that ideally that Article I could have solved this on our own, but the majority-passed rule that we believe is unconstitutional and so the remedy there is for us to go to the courts and ask for them to confirm our reading of the Constitution, and that will take a little bit of time,” one leadership aide told reporters, adding they believe it raises “significant constitutional questions if any law were to actually become effective as a result of these votes.”
In response, Pelosi whined that the chamber passed the vote-by-proxy scheme, so what’s the big deal? Well, Democrats passed the vote-by-proxy scheme; as the congressional aid noted, it was a party-line vote, and Democrats control the House.
“This is not simply arcane parliamentary procedure. It is a brazen violation of the Constitution, a dereliction of our duty as elected officials, and would silence the American people’s voice during a crisis,” McCarthy correctly noted.
In addition, he and the GOP say that too much legislative authority is improperly concentrated in Pelosi’s hands and those of her chief lieutenants.
Pelosi is a power-mad lunatic with designs on controlling her chamber much in the same way the Communist Chinese have moved in to control Hong Kong. No dissent, no voices heard, no changes allowed, no nothing that she doesn’t approve.
That’s not how a representative republic operates.
