When will America return to normal?
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked that very thing at Wednesday’s press briefing.
The lady who speaks for the President’s answer, conveyed by a gif:
A reporter posed:
“The question of when we get some semblance of normalcy, that timeline…seems to be shifting. Dr. Fauci had said a sense of normalcy maybe in the fall — that’s when you might be able to go to theaters, go to sporting events. Still with masks, of course.”
But:
“Now it seems that’s being slid to early next year, the President said maybe around Christmas. What’s going on here? When do we think we will get back to some taste of normalcy?”
Psaki socked it to ’em:
“Well, this is the question, as I’m sure is the case for all of you, that every neighbor, every friend, every family member asks, at least me in the street when I’m walking my dog in the morning. We want to be straight with the American public, though. It is — we are not in a place where we can predict exactly when everybody will feel normal again. And, it has, there are a number of reasons.”
Numero Uno:
“One is, even though we will have enough doses for every person in this country, as you all know, we’ve talked about it in here, vaccine hesitancy remains a challenge. We need to ensure that everybody who can get a dose is getting a dose. We will also need to be masking for some time. We will also need to be still taking social distancing measures.”
Biden wants it, but he doesn’t know when he — or we — will get it:
“So, you know, there is, of course, is an understandable question. And I think the President wants things to return to normal, as we all do, but we don’t know at this point what that timeline is going to look like.”
So again: When will America return to normal?
Or — if you prefer the truncated version — will America return to normal?
Perhaps it’s my California conditioning, but as for the shorter query, I lean toward No.
The government’s tasted unprecedented control for our own good; why would they abandon their honorable intent?
Going forward, germs will continue to kill. Each year will see a flu flyin’ ’round.
Why allow us to masklessly mock the murderous molecules?
We appear to be moving in a clear direction — that of elected officials steering our fate.
The nation’s primed for it: An increasing number of young people favor socialism, which — despite what many seem to think — is not a system in which employees get to own the companies.
It is, in essence, one in which politicians own them.
For the fact-checkers: Socialism – An economic system in which government owns all products and means of production.
Right now, it’d be nice if one of those products was life pre-2020.
But it might not be delivered stunningly soon.
As noted by The Daily Wire, at a Tuesday night CNN town hall event, President Joe offered the promise of a Christmas kiss:
“[I]t’s a high probability that the vaccinations that are available today — and the new one, Johnson & Johnson, God willing will prove to be useful — that with those vaccinations, the ability to continue to spread the disease is going to diminish considerably because of what they call ‘herd immunity.’ … And so if that works that way, as my mother would say, with the grace of God and the goodwill of the neighbors, that by next Christmas, I think we’ll be in a very different circumstance, God willing, than we are today. I think a year from now, when it’s 22 below zero…a year from now, I think that there’d be significantly fewer people having to be socially distanced, have to wear a mask. [Experts] said, but we don’t know. So I don’t want to over promise anything here.”
Conveyed by a movie clip:
Good luck, America.
