On its official Twitter account, The Arizona Republican Party asked its followers if they would be “willing” to “give their lives” in the “fight” to overturn the results of the 2020 election, along with comments featuring Rambo video clips and memes.

On Monday, Ali Alexander, National Organizer for the Stop the Steal movement, tweeted, “I am willing to give my life for this fight.”

In response, the official account for the Arizona GOP retweeted the post along with the caption “He is. Are you?”

In another post with a clip from the movie Rambo, the account tweeted “This is what we do, who we are. Live for nothing, or die for something,” along with an American flag emoji. That tweet has since been deleted, but screenshots of the original post were saved and shared by others.

THE ARIZONA REPUBLICAN PARTY IS NOW ADVOCATING FOR VIOLENCE TO OVERTURN THE 2020 ELECTION.

GOVERNOR @DOUGDUCEY, ATTORNEY GENERAL @GENERALBRNOVICH, AND OTHER REPUBLICANS IN THE STATE HAVE A DUTY TO DENOUNCE THIS EXTREMIST RHETORIC BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. PIC.TWITTER.COM/3D2NSPSEDC— NICK MARTIN (@NICKMARTIN) DECEMBER 8, 2020

When asked about the tweets, a spokesperson for the Arizona GOP told CBS News that the party does not condone violence.

The Republican Party of Arizona condemns all forms of violence in the strongest terms. Fictional movie scenes should be weighed in their proper context,” the spokesperson said.

The comments were widely criticized by politicians on both sides of the aisle, although many Republicans are still supporting Trump’s challenge of the election results

“You’re asking people to die for this conspiracy theory? What in the living hell is wrong with you people?” State Senator Martín Quezada tweeted.

“‘Die for Trump’ is the official ‘AZ GOP’ twitter message? Really guys? Really?” Meghan McCain, the daughter of late Arizona senator and former Republican presidential candidate John McCain tweeted.

“Our Governor needs to put a stop to this dangerous behavior now. This is out of control,” tweeted State Senator Victoria Steele.

Last week, Arizona certified President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of the state, but his supporters and his legal team continue to contest the results. More than half of the Republicans in Congress have filed a brief with the Supreme Court, demanding that the nation’s highest court name Donald Trump as the winner of the 2020 election. 106 House Republicans in total signed the brief and are refusing to accept the results of the election, despite the results being certified in all 50 states this week.

Trump and his GOP allies have been accused of staging a coup by numerous media sources, including the Chicago Tribune.

Earlier this week, for the second time during Trump’s term in office, “#civilwar” was trending on Twitter with comments voicing concern about the intense political climate surrounding the contested 2020 election.

Many of Trump’s most vocal supporters have insisted that they will not accept the election results and some of them have publicly expressed a willingness to carry out violence to keep Trump in power.

The Arizona GOP’s post asking who would be willing to die over the election results gathered over 9,000 comments, 3,000 retweets, and 3,000 likes. Some of these comments were from critics, but many of them were from people expressing their willingness to risk their lives for the election.
