PORTLAND, Ore. — A fire reported at a Jewish center in Southwest Portland Wednesday morning is under investigation.
Crews responded to a fire at the Chabad Center for Jewish Life on Southwest Vermont Street at around 2:45 a.m.
A battalion chief told KATU News this is the second fire at this location in a week. Officials said the fire that happened on August 14 was determined to be due to an electrical malfunction.
"There was a fire in this structure about earlier this week. I can't recall what day it was. I think it was about three or four days ago," said Portland Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jerry Bartolome.
Crews haven't said if they consider the fire suspicious, but the building is badly damaged.
Fire Investigators have not yet determined a cause, but they are very interested in finding more information that may help them.
