If I Only Had A Brain: AOC Says Illegals Need Checks, Too

When it comes to political comedy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Each week, Liberty Nation uncovers the blunders that keep us wondering: How did she ever get elected?
Before Congress finally passed legislation to use government funds to stimulate the economy, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was inserting herself into the equation with her odd takes on the bill. She even went so far as to threaten to inconvenience her colleagues to promote her usual far-left agenda.
Earlier this week, Ocasio-Cortez slammed the coronavirus stimulus bill that had recently passed the Senate. Now that the House has approved the legislation, the government will send money to individuals, help to keep certain corporations afloat, and combat the economic impact of the pandemic.
AOC Slams Coronavirus Bill Because It Doesn’t Help Illegals
AOC has criticized the bill because it focuses more on helping businesses than individuals. But there was another aspect of the proposed legislation that rankled the young lawmaker. She took umbrage because it will not send stimulus funds to nonresident immigrants.
“To clarify, $1200 checks are ONLY going to some w/social sec numbers, NOT immigrants w/ tax IDs (ITINs),” she tweeted. “Thanks to GOP, these checks will be cut off the backs of *taxpaying immigrants,* who get nothing. Many are essential workers who pay more taxes than Amazon. Wall St gets $4T”
According to the IRS, Individual Tax Identification Numbers are a “tax processing number only available for certain nonresident and resident aliens, their spouses, and dependents who cannot get a Social Security Number.” Illegal immigrants can also obtain ITINs.

Ocasio-Cortez Threatens To Force House Members Back To DC

AOC’s issues with the stimulus bill weren’t just idle whining, allegedly. On the day before the vote, she stated that she was open to forcing fellow members of the House to return to DC to vote on the package. In an appearance on CNN, she argued that the bill was unfairly slanted towards corporations and did not go far enough to help individuals.
Nancy Pelosi
If Ocasio-Cortez had asked for a recorded vote, her colleagues would have been required to vote on the proposed measure in person. Many lawmakers were hesitant to return to Washington due to fears over catching COVID-19.
While Ocasio-Cortez had not yet read the final bill, she indicated that she was “open” to asking for the recorded vote “if necessary.” When asked if she was concerned about the unpopularity of such a move, she replied: “of course.” But she didn’t seem to be that bothered, adding:
“With the health risks of travel, there is no easy choice here. But essential workers are showing up and putting their health at risk every day, and if the final text of a bill is set up to hurt them, it may be something we have to do.”
If Ocasio-Cortez had forced a recorded vote, it would have disrupted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s plans to have the bill adopted by unanimous consent. Pelosi previously indicated that the vote would not take place on Wednesday as planned, and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said that he would give House members 24 hours notice before scheduling the vote.
Additionally, If AOC had asked for a recorded vote, it could have delayed proceedings, which means Americans would have had to deal with their circumstances until the House agreed on the content of the proposed legislation. Just as she did when she helped to scuttle Amazon’s move to New York City, the lawmaker seemed willing to allow people to suffer so she can pursue her socialist agenda. Nothing surprising there, right?
