A Scottish couple known as Britain’s first transgender family has sparked controversy after announcing that they would allow their 5-year-old son to begin transitioning genders.
27-year-old Greg Rogers, who was born a woman, and his wife Jody, aged 21, say that son Jayden has started transitioning into a female, Scottish tabloid newspaper The Daily Record reports.
The Scottish couple says that after they made the announcement they were subjected to a torrent of online abuse and trolling. The two also say that they’ve also been reported to social services by anonymous community members.
“We’ve had people saying we’re using Jayden for attention and that she just wants to be a girl because I changed sex,” Greg told the tabloid.
“It’s ridiculous. Jayden knows nothing about my past. She just knows me as dad,” he added.
Jody told the tabloid that Jayden says he “hates being a boy and that she’s actually a girl”. “She wanted to wear girl’s clothes so we decided to go with the flow and bought them for her,” Jody added.
“They say it’s cruel we let her wear a dress but is it not more cruel to do nothing when you’ve got a kid who’s so adamant she’s a girl she’s ripping her hair off and banging her head off the walls?” Greg said.
In April, the Daily Mail reported that five whistleblowing clinicians at Britain’s NHS transgender clinic quit after parents were having their children, some as young as three-years-old, undergo unnecessary gender reassignment treatment.
Over the past three years, at least 18 staff members at the clinic have quit over its controversial gender reassignment practices.
