The Swedish government is set to grant € 160,000 from the Swedish Inheritance Fund – a state body that manages the inheritance money of Swedes who’ve died without heirs – to fund drag queen story hours for kids.
The cash will go to the Stockholm-based “Kultureföreningen Mums”, a politically independent association that “aims to broaden Sweden’s cultural offerings with a special focus on LGBT+ issues, diversity, and equality,” according to Pink News UK, an online newspaper geared to the LGBT community.
Kultureföreningen Mums will then use to money to organize events where transvestite and transgendered individuals read stories to children.
“The project will, together with children, young people and adults with disabilities, develop available normative creative fairy tales in the form of drag shows. Together with the target group and several organizations, the established business Among dragons and drag queens will create new fairy tales that reflect the target group,” writes Sweden’s General Heritage Foundation.
The money will be used to fund projects “based on the needs and wishes of the target group,” which includes so-called ‘drag show workshops’ centered around drag queens reading short stories to kids in libraries.
The Swedish Inheritance Fund will also dole out large chunks of money to other left-wing groups, including one that promotes “a higher climate commitment” for young people.
Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) or Drag Queen Storytime events first began in 2015 and were started author and far-left activist Michelle Tea in San Francisco, California. Since then, they’ve been popping up throughout North America and Western Europe.
