In a single night, the suburb of Märsta, located just north of Stockholm, saw 19 cars set ablaze and an explosive device detonated just outside of a local hair salon.
Residents of Märsta were awakened by two loud bangs during the early hours of Monday morning.
Police say they were called to three different locations where a total of 19 cars were set on fire, and to another location where an explosion had occurred, Aftonbladet reports.
Cars where set ablaze in Odensalavägen, Valstavägen, and Vänortsringen.
Shortly after, police near responded to an explosion at a local hair salon in Märsta.
Bomb technicians were subsequently called to the scene to investigate the incident, which has been classified as ‘public destruction’.
In a statement given on their website, police from Stockholm County wrote: “At present, we are investigating serious damages regarding the car fires and the general danger of destruction for the detonation that was at a hairdresser’s salon.”
Currently, it’s unknown as to whether anyone was injured during any of the incidents.
Despite the explosion having taken place quite close to the car fires, police say that it isn’t clear whether there’s a connection between the blast and the fires.
So far no suspects have been detained.
