Paris knife attack in police station kills at least 4 officers, injures others, assailant shot dead: officials

At least four police officers were killed and several others were injured in a knife attack inside Paris police headquarters Thursday before the attacker was shot and killed, officials said.
The assailant, whom authorities have yet to identify, began attacking officers around 1 p.m., said police union official Yves Lefebvre. It wasn’t immediately clear how far the man made it into the building before police shot him.
Union official Loic Travers said several officers were injured during the attack. Lefebvre earlier told French channel BFM TV that one officer had been gravely injured.

Further details on the injured officers weren’t immediately available.
Another police union official, Jean-Marc Bailleul, told French broadcaster BFM TV that information was still coming in but he understood the attacker was a police department employee.
French media reported that a staff member carried out the attack with a ceramic knife in part of the prefecture that is not open to the public.
