Hungary hosts international military drills aimed at handling a second migrant crisis

Hungary hosted the Central European Defense Cooperation’s international military drills aimed at handling another migrant crisis.

Defense Minister Tibor Benkő declared that illegal immigration continues to be one of the largest threats facing Europe.

“This is proven by the number of countries taking part in the Cooperative Security 19 (COOPSEC19) exercise,” Benkő said.

500 military and law enforcement officers from Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, and Poland. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Greece, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia are also said to have sent delegates the military exercise, About Hungary reports.

Defense ministers and chiefs of staff of the participating nations also attended the exercises, which ended Thursday.

“The Hungarian government’s position on migration is unchanged,” Minister Benkő said, adding “The problems that make people leave their homelands should be dealt with where they arise.”

“Our job is to preserve the values, customs, traditions, and culture established by our forebears,” Benkő said.
