Progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted her fellow Democrats for their failure in not moving ahead with impeachment proceedings against President Trump.
“At this point, the bigger national scandal isn’t the president’s lawbreaking behavior – it is the Democratic Party’s refusal to impeach him for it,” the first-year lawmaker wrote on Twitter shortly before midnight Saturday.

He called on Senate Republicans to speak out against Trump.
"What Trump is doing remains objectively the biggest threat, scandal, and problem. Second-ranking: the silent acquiescence of the GOP Senate. Then: it’s time for House to act,” Fallows wrote.
Ocasio-Cortez responded to his posting and once again took Democrats to task.
”It is one thing for a sitting president to break the law. It’s another to let him,” she said. “The integrity of our democracy isn’t threatened when a president breaks the law. It‘s threatened when we do nothing about it. The GOP’s silence & refusal to act shouldn’t be a surprise. Ours is.”
Some of the Democratic presidential candidates have taken shots at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her approach on moving to begin impeach proceedings.
“Congress failed to act,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren said during a campaign stop in Iowa, referring to revelations contained in the Mueller report. “And now Donald Trump has shown that he believes he is above the law. He has solicited another foreign government to attack our election system.”
Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke said the Ukraine scandal could undermine American democracy.
“What is Congress waiting for? This is crazy. Unless we take action now, we will see the end of American democracy,” O’Rourke, a former congressman, posted on his Twitter account.
But Pelosi, (D-Calif.) has called impeachment a “divisive measure,” urging Democrats to follow the facts before making a decision.
Calls to impeach Trump has escalated in recent days after reports claim the president pressured Ukranian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the business dealings of Joe Biden’s son Hunter in Ukraine.
A whistleblower contacted the inspector general of the US intelligence community in August to flag multiple instances in which the president made promises to a foreign leader.
The complaint was eventually forwarded to the acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire, who has refused to hand it over to Congress
Trump has emphasized that he said nothing wrong in his conversations with Zelensky and called on Congress to investigate the Bidens’ ties to Ukraine, saying that’s the “real and only story.”
Biden, the front-runner among Democratic candidates, said Trump is raising allegations against him and his family because “he knows I’ll beat him like a drum.”
